Biographical Information[edit]
Kohei Shibata played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Shibata represented Japan in the 2008 Haarlemse Honkbalweek and 2008 World University Championship (hitting .238/.304/.238 as the leadoff man for the runners-up), and he won three Best Nines and 2 batting titles in the Chiba Prefecture University Baseball League. The Hanshin Tigers selected him in the 2nd round of the 2008 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first two seasons. He played 104 games with a .271/.313/.330 batting line in 2011, then he recorded a .234/.322/.273 batting line in 2012. He also played 12 games with a .333/.435/.404 batting line for the Canberra Cavalry in the 2012-2013 Australian Baseball League. However, he never get more then 100 at-bats in a season after 2012, and he was released in 2016. The Chiba Lotte Marines picked him up, but he went 4-for-33 in 2017 then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Shibata hit .230/.286/.280 with 119 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
