Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Kody Hinze played in the Houston Astros system from 2008 to 2012. He was originally taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 46th round of the 2005 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of infielder Blake Davis, but he opted not to sign. He later signed with Houston.
Though Hinze posted a .831 OPS and finished second in the Appalachian League with 34 walks (behind Dominic De La Osa's 36) his first season, he didn't really break out until his third, in 2010. That year, he hit .277/.377/.465 with 19 home runs and 97 RBI for the Lexington Legends. He followed that with 29 home runs, 98 RBI, 94 walks and a .306/.420/.541 line between the Lancaster JetHawks and Corpus Christi Hooks. He was chosen to join the semi-exclusive Arizona Fall League following the season, hitting .268/.362/.463 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 22 games for the Salt River Rafters. After struggling to a .212/.299/.365 line for Corpus Christi in 2012, he was released, thus ending his professional career.
Overall, Hinze hit .268/.373/.461 with 72 home runs, 295 RBI and 258 walks in 456 games over five minor league seasons. He was a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star and a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2010 and a California League Mid-Season All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2011. He earned two Player of the Week honors in 2010 and 2011, respectively, as well.
