Biographical Information[edit]

Kiyoharu Sakata played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years. His brothers Yoshihide Sakata and Masayoshi Sakata both played in NPB.

Sakata signed with the Hankyu club in 1944, and he hit .310/.364/.349 in 33 games in his first season. He was 6th in batting in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (between Fumio Fujimura and Den Yamada) and 6th in hits (between Fujimura and Yamada). He then had a .239/.330/.290 batting line in 1946, but he slumped to .198/.263/.238 in 1947 and he left the team. Sakata returned in 1950 with the Hiroshima Carp when the JPBL split into two leagues, and he crushed 3 homers with a .245/.291/.307 batting line. Sakata was 7-for-49 in 1951, and he returned to Hankyu in 1952. He went 3-for-21 that season, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Sakata hit .239/.299/.291 with 227 hits and 3 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
