He made the Pacific League All-Star team, and he pitched 2 innings with one run allowed in the 2005 NPB All-Star Game 2. He tied Satoru Kanemura for 7th in the circuit in wins but was third in runs allowed (81).

The Fukuoka native was less effective in 2006 (5-2, 4.66) and 2007 (2-7, 4.29). Hoashi had a big year in 2008, going 11-6 with a 2.63 ERA. He was 4th in the PL in ERA (between Satoshi Komatsu and Toshiya Sugiuchi), 4th in innings (174 2/3, between Sugiuchi and Hideaki Wakui), tied Kenji Otonari and Kazuhisa Ishii for 8th in wins and led in shutouts (3). He made his second and last PL All-Star team, and he relieved Shogo Yamamoto in the 7th inning of the 2008 NPB All-Star Game 1. However, he gave up 3 runs, including Tomoaki Kanemoto's 2-run single. In the 2008 Nippon Series, he started in Game 2 and pitched 5 innings with only a run allowed. He then pitched 3 1/3 innings with one run surrendered in Game 6, and the Lions beat the Yomiuri Giants in 7 games.

Hoashi was 9-6 with a 3.59 ERA in 2009, and he was 5th in complete games (5, tied with Yu Darvish, Chihiro Kaneko, Hisashi Iwakuma, Yoshihisa Naruse and Satoshi Nagai). He then had a 11-8 record with a 3.69 ERA in 2010, and he tied Masahiro Tanaka for 10th in wins. Hoashi went 9-6 with a 2.83 ERA in 2011, and he ranked 10th in ERA (between Tadashi Settsu and Takahiro Shiomi). He then announced that he would become a free agent, and he signed with the Softbank Hawks. Hoashi suffered from a left shoulder injury, so he only pitched one game in 2012. He then went 8-7 with a 4.58 ERA in 2013, and he was 6-1 with a 4.54 ERA in 2014. He only started 3 games with a 3.44 ERA in 2015, and he announced his retirement.
