Biographical Information[edit]

Kazuto Kawabata pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Kawabata was drafted by the Tokyo Orions in the 2nd round of the 1966 NPB draft, and he went 1-1 with a 2.74 ERA in 1968. He pitched 22 games with a 3.12 ERA in 1969, but he allowed 11 runs in 10 innings in 1970 before the Orions traded him to the Chunichi Dragons for Shinichi Eto in the middle of the season. Kawabata was 2-4 with a 3.71 ERA in the rest of the season, and he went 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in 1971. He was then traded to the Hiroshima Carp for Hiroaki Inoue, but he mainly stayed in the minors in the next five seasons; he only pitched 8 games combined for the top team. He was traded with Hiroaki Nagamoto to the Hankyu Braves for Hironori Shogaki in 1977, and he was 1-2 with a 3.44 ERA. Kawabata didn't reach the top team in 1978, and he announced his retirement. He later coached the Braves in 1979.

Overall, Kawabata was 9-10 with a 3.89 ERA, struck out 136 and pitched 221 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
