Biographical Information[edit]
Kazuo Matsumoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Matsumoto signed with the Taiyo Robins in 1948, and he hit .258/.319/.333 in his first season. He improved to .305/.360/.433 in 1949, and he was 10th in batting in the Nippon Professional Baseball League (between Shigeru Chiba and Hiroshi Oshita) and 7th in triples (tied with Makoto Kozuru and Naofumi Yasui). Matsumoto went to the Chunichi Dragons when the JPBL split into two leagues, and he had a .258/.326/.337 batting line with a career-high 29 steals in 1950. He hit .225/.286/.267 in 64 games in 1951, but he slumped to .134/.226/.168 in 1952 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Matsumoto hit .259/.323/.344 with 452 hits and 11 homers in 5 seasons in NPB.
