Biographical Information

Kazunari Ishii has played in Nippon Pro Baseball. His brother Takumi Ishii also played in NPB.

Ishii represented Japan in the 2016 Haarlem Baseball Week. He was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 6th round the 2016 NPB draft, and he played 114 games with a .205/.271/.271 batting line in his rookie year. Ishii struggled again in 2018 as his batting line was .189/.255/.277, then he hit .224/.282/.367 with 4 homers in 2019. He only played 59 games with a .179/.202/.242 batting line in 2020, and he bounced back in 2021. He won the competition for the starting shortstop spot with Takuya Nakashima, and he played 111 games with a .225/.280/.335 batting line. Ishii then batted .236/.284.378 with 6 triples in 2022, and he tied Akito Takabe and Shuhei Fukuda for third in triples in the Pacific League. However, he lost his spot after Gosuke Katoh joined the team and he was 14-for-83 in 2023. Ishii hit .234/.281/.360 in 68 games in 2024, and he was 1-for-4 in the 2024 PLCS; the Fighters were swept by the Softbank Hawks.
