Biographical Information

Kazuki Mishima made his Nippon Pro Baseball debut in 2013.

Mishima was the second-round pick of the Yokohama BayStars in the 2012 NPB draft. His first strikeout in NPB came against Shuichi Murata and he got his first hit off Kenichi Matsuoka. He was 6-9 as a rookie in 2013, with a 3.94 ERA. He fanned 145 in 146 1/3 IP but walked 79. At the plate, he was 4 for 30. He was the first BayStars rookie in five years to throw a complete game shutout; Kentaro Kuwahara had done it most recently. He finished tied for 8th in the Central League in losses (even with Daiki Enokida, Bryan Bullington, Kyohei Muranaka and Masanori Ishikawa), led in walks (20 ahead of #2 Ryosuke Yagi), was 6th in whiffs (between Hirokazu Sawamura and Yasuhiro Ogawa) and was second with 20 homers allowed (6 behind teammate Daisuke Miura). He tied Miura for the second-best ERA among Yokohama's most-used starters, behind Shugo Fujii.

The Fukuoka native struggled in 2014 as his ERA was 10.88 in 8 games, and he went 5-5 with a 4.81 ERA in 2015. Mishima struggled again in 2016 as he only pitched 4 games, and his ERA was 6.23 in 16 relief outings in 2017. He bounced back in 2018, and he notched 15 holds with a 3.97 ERA in 60 appearances. He was 7th in games, between Suguru Iwazaki and Ryuji Ichioka. Mishima then collected 23 holds with a 4.33 ERA in 71 games in 2019, and he ranked 2nd in appearances (3 behind his teammate Edwin Escobar) and 7th in holds (tied with Kyuji Fujikawa).

Mishima was named the closer of the BayStars in 2020, and he notched 18 saves with a 2.45 ERA in 48 games. He ranked 5th in saves, between Geronimo Franzua and Rubby De La Rosa. Mishima then pitched 59 games with a 4.08 ERA and 23 saves in 2021, and he was 9th in appearances (tied with Yohei Kagiya) and 4th in saves (tied with Raidel Martinez). Mishima was also selected into the 2021 NPB All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning in Game 1. However, Mishima suffered from ossification of the yellow ligament, so he only pitched 13 games with a 2.84 ERA in 2022. His ERA was 4.84 in 27 games in 2023, and he recorded a 5.14 ERA in 7 relief outings in 2024.

He throws a fastball (peak 96 mph), slider, curveball and forkball.
