Biographical Information[edit]
Kazuaki Kato played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Kato signed with the Chunichi Dragons in 1950 as a pitcher, and he allowed 7 runs in 3 1/3 innings in his first season. He was 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 1951, then he was turned into a first baseman. Kato only got 12 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, and he was released. The Tombo Unions picked him up, and he hit .218/.284/.301 with 5 triples in 1955. He then crushed 5 homers with a .212/.276/.279 batting line in 1956, and he hit .239/.304/.317 in 118 games in 197. Kato jumped to the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1958, but his batting line fell to .199/.245/.263 He was 7-for-55 in 1959, and he then announced his retirement.
Overall, Kato hit .213/.272/.281 with 313 hits and 12 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
