Biographical Information[edit]
Justin Reid pitched in the minor leagues from 1999 to 2006. Despite spending part or all of four seasons at Triple-A, he never ascended to the major leagues.
He was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 4th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a couple picks after outfielder Matthew Cepicky. After a down first campaign (though he averaged more than a K per frame), he went 9-8 with a 3.02 ERA in 27 games (22 starts) for the Hickory Crawdads in 2000, completing a South Atlantic League-leading 5 games and striking out 176 in 170 innings. The next year, he was 7-9 with a 2.44 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) between the Lynchburg Hillcats (2-4, 2.25 ERA) and Altoona Curve (5-5, 2.54 ERA). He had the best BB/9 IP ratio in the Eastern League at 1.15, walking just 14 batters in 110 innings. After an 11-win season in 2002 in which he had the EL's second-best BB/9 (1.6, behind Jamie Brown's 1.5), he reached Triple-A for the first time in 2003, going 3-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 34 games (8 starts) for the Nashville Sounds. He returned to Nashville in 2004 and 2005 with varying degrees of success (he had the second-best K/9 IP ratio in '04 at 8.9, behind Dan Haren's 10.5), before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers system for 2006.
Overall, Reid went 46-54 with a 4.08 ERA in 228 games (134 starts). In 966 2/3 innings, he allowed 969 hits and 253 walks (1.264 WHIP), while striking out 792 batters. At Triple-A, he was 17-22 with a 4.96 ERA in 134 games (51 starts).
