Biographical Information[edit]
Relief pitcher Josh Smith began his professional career in 2019.
He was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 25th round of the 2018 amateur draft after posting a 1.13 ERA with just 11 hits allowed in 24 innings at Grand Valley State University; he was signed by scout Chris Collias. His pro career began the next year. Between the AZL Rangers and Spokane Indians, he went 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 20 appearances to start his career. After not playing in 2020 due to the pandemic, he returned in 2021 to go 1-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 27 games between the Down East Wood Ducks and Hickory Crawdads. He also had 49 Ks in 43 2/3 innings. He split 2022 between the Wood Ducks, Crawdads and Frisco RoughRiders, going 5-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 35 games. In 2023, he made a single appearance for Frisco, posted an infinite ERA and was released the next February; he spent most of the year on the injured list. He joined the independent Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association for 2024, going 0-0 with a 3.49 mark in 45 games. He moved to the Mexican League for 2025, going 2-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 43 games between the Bravos de Leon and Caliente de Durango.
