Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Josh Smith pitched professionally from 1995 to 1998, peaking at rookie ball. Beginning his pro career at 17 years old, he played in the San Diego Padres system until 1997 before joining the Grays Harbor Gulls/Western Warriors of the Western League in 1998. In his first year, with the AZL Padres, he went 1-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 8 games (no starts). In 1996, between the AZL Padres and Idaho Falls Braves, he went 4-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 27 games (0 starts). Then his final two ERAs were 10.13 and 6.26 to wrap up his career.

Overall, Smith went 7-6 with a 5.49 ERA in 86 games (0 starts). In 114 2/3 innings, he allowed 124 hits and 75 walks (1.735 WHIP), while striking out 87 batters. He averaged more than a walk per inning with Idaho Falls in 1997.
