Biographical Information[edit]
Jordan Comadena (AKA Funky) played college ball with the Purdue University Boilermakers and graduated in 2008 with a degree in Movement and Sports Science. While in college, Comadena also played summer ball with the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League. The Mallards retired his No. 14 jersey after he had established a number of career records.
Undrafted out of college, Comadena signed a free agent contract with the Houston Astros in 2009 and played in their minor league system from 2009-2011. After his release in early 2012, Comadena returned to the Mallards as an assistant coach for the 2012 season. He followed that by serving as an assistant coach with the Parkland College Cobras during the 2013 season. In between coaching stints, Comadema worked in private business. He returned to Purdue for the 2015/2016 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
The Pittsburgh Pirates enticed Comadena away from college coaching in 2016 and he worked with the Bucs for the final month of that season as a bullpen catcher. Comadena continued as a Pirates bullpen catcher through the 2025 season. From 2021-2024 he was also listed as a catching assistant. The Pirates promoted Comadena to major league catching coach in 2026.
