Biographical Information

Joe Scotland played with several independent Black baseball teams for 10 seasons in the years preceding the establishment of the Negro National League in 1920.

Debuting as a first baseman for the Birmingham Giants in 1907, Scotland mainly played the outfield in over the next several years. Among his stops included time with the Cuban Giants, French Lick Plutos, Indianapolis ABCs and Louisville White Sox.
