Biographical Information[edit]
Jiro Fujitate played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.
Fujitate was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 4th round of the 1989 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 2 at-bats for the top team. He hit .281/.331/.438 in 71 games in 1992, and he went 14-for-41 in 1993. Fujitate then recorded a .237/.287/.487 batting line in 1994, and he played 60 games in 1995 with a .232/.295/.328 batting line. He had his career year in 1996, and he crushed 9 homers with a solid .309/.347/.691 batting line. He also tied the NPB record for hitting three consecutive homers as a pinch-hitter, following Marshall Brant and Akinobu Mayumi. However, Fujitate only got 23 at-bats combined in the next three seasons, and he was traded to the Orix BlueWave for cash. Fujitate hit .266/.341/.413 in 71 games in 2000, and he was released after he recorded a .229/.345/.343 batting line in 2001. The Chunichi Dragons picked him up, and he went 10-for-55 in 2002. He only got one at-bat in 2003, and he was released again. Fujitate then signed with the Seibu Lions, but he failed to return to the top team in 2004 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Fujitate hit .255/.318/.440 with 186 hits and 29 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
