Cologna began his coaching career at Avila. He was a student assistant coach during the 2019-2020 seasons. In the fall of 2020 he moved to Missouri State and worked as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2021-2022 seasons. In this position, Cologna was the program’s first base coach, assisted with offensive development and game planning, and worked with the Bears’ catchers. In October of 2022 he was promoted to Director of Player Development. In addition to his work at MSU, Cologna served as the Commissioner of the Sho-Me Collegiate League in the summer of 2021 and was an assistant coach for the Wareham Gatemen in the 2022 Cape Cod League.
In 2023, the New York Mets hired Cologna for their development coach position with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. After the season he served as a bench coach for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League. Cologna was the bench coach for the St. Lucie Mets in 2024.
Cologna left the Mets organization in September, 2024 to rejoin Missouri State, this time as an assistant coach. He works with the Bears hitters and catchers and assists in the program’s recruiting efforts.[1] He returned to the pro ranks with the Houston Astros' organization as development coach of the Corpus Christi Hooks in 2026.
