Biographical Information[edit]
Jefry Yan has played in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Yan signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2013, and he was 2-1 with a 7.92 ERA for the DSL Angels in 2014. He improved to 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA in 2015, then he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2016 season. Yan pitched one game for the AZL Angels in 2017, and he was released. He was then in limbo for a while, not pitching anywhere for a few years, with the COVID-19 pandemic not helping things either.
The Miami Marlins signed Yan in 2021, and his ERA was 3.18 in 11 games for the Jupiter Hammerheads and 1.93 in 10 games for the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Yan also pitched 9 games with a 8.31 ERA for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League. He was 2-4 with a 4.89 ERA for the Wahoos in 2022, and he notched 13 saves with a 3-3 record and a 3.71 ERA in 2023. He also got 6 appearances for the AAA Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, but he allowed 10 runs in 6 innings. He was second in the Southern League in saves, two behind Cam Robinson. He was second to Evan Taylor in saves by a Marlins farmhand that summer and led their system in games pitched (49, 3 more than Taylor). Yan then played for the Estrellas Orientales in the winter, and he was 3-1 with a 3.50 ERA.
The Seibu Lions signed him with a 1-year, $500,000 contract in 2024, but Yan struggled as his ERA was 5.58 in 37 relief outings. He also recorded a 3.09 ERA in 12 games in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he was 0-2 with a 1.71 ERA in the winter. Yan signed with the Colorado Rockies in 2025. He had a rough season with the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes, going 1-3, 7.28 in 27 games. He did show some electric stuff, with 45 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings, but it also came with 22 walks. Following the season, he helped the Leones del Escogido clinch the Dominican League title, having been added to the team for the playoffs after pitching for Estrellas during the season.
He is known for his over-the-top celebration whenever he strikes out an opponent in a big moment. This includes jumping high in the air while performing a split, throwing his glove with fervor, and punching his chest numerous times.
