Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Jay Langston played in the Pittsburgh Pirates system from 1999 to 2001, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by the club in the 12th round of the 1999 amateur draft, one pick after pitcher Tony Cogan.

With the Williamsport Crosscutters his first year, he batted .275/.300/.340 with 1 home run and 20 RBI in 54 games. The next year, he batted .292/.333/.414 with 8 home runs and 77 RBI in 113 games for the Hickory Crawdads and in 2001, he hit .269/.295/.353 with 2 homers, 52 RBI, 33 doubles and just 17 walks in 129 games between the Lynchburg Hillcats and Altoona Curve.

Overall, he batted .279/.311/.374 with 11 home runs and 149 RBI in 296 games. In 1,184 plate appearances, he walked just 50 times.
