Biographical Information[edit]

Jay Kirke played six years in MLB and 23 years in the minor leagues (1906-1935). In the minors, he played 2617 games, had 3165 hits, 1297 runs scored, 997 runs batted in (data incomplete), 801 long hits and hit .316. His son, Jay Kirke Jr., also played and managed in the minors.

He was the biggest hitter on the 1911 New Orleans Pelicans, and ten years later was the biggest hitter for the 1921 Louisville Colonels, for whom he hit .386.

According to a 1912 newspaper report[1], Kirke hit almost exclusively to the opposite field.

Kirke and Joe Jackson were teammates on the 1914 Cleveland Naps and the 1915 Cleveland Indians. They were almost the same age, having been born eleven months apart.
