Biographical Information[edit]

Jay Flaa pitched a total of two major league games. They both came in 2021, but for two different teams in two different leagues. He made his debut on April 27th by pitching 1 1/3 scoreless inning for the Baltimore Orioles against the New York Yankees, issuing a pair of walks but not giving up a hit. On May 29th, he faced the New York Mets as a member of the Atlanta Braves, but this time it did not go so well as he gave up 4 runs on 3 hits in 1 1/3 inning, including homers by Billy McKinney and Francisco Lindor. In between the two stints, he had been claimed off waivers by the Braves from the Orioles on May 11th. He was the fourth pitcher to have exactly two games in two different major leagues in the same season, but the first for who those were his only career games.

He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 6th round of the 2015 amateur draft from North Dakota State University, having also attended the University of Mary, another NoDak school, earlier. He was almost exclusively a reliever during his professional career, which lasted from 2015 to 2021, making only 3 starts in 199 appearances (counting his two major league outings). He was never a closer, as his highest total of saves in any year was 5, in 2019. After pitching for Atlanta, he went 1-2, 5.82 in 31 games for the Gwinnett Braves and retired following the season.
