James Russell (minors02)
James Russell
- Born c. 1872 in Connecticut USA
- Died January 25, 1900 in Bridgeport, CT USA
Biographical Information[edit]
James Russell was the regular left fielder for the Utica Pent-Ups in the 1890 New York State League. Said to be 18 years old upon joining the team, he was one of several players from Bridgeport, CT brought to the team by manager Hugh Reddy[1]. In his 1900 obituary he was said to be a "well-known ball player"[2], though nothing is known of his playing days beyond his time in Utica. It is possible that his obituary in New Haven confused him with a local polo and baseball player named J. F. Russell.
