Biographical Information[edit]
Hugh Reddy began the 1890 season as the manager of the Utica Pent-Ups of the New York State League. A native of Bridgeport, CT, he selected numerous Bridgeport-based players to play with the Utica club[1]. The team struggled early in the season and David Dischler took over as manager of the club by July and filled the role through the end of the season.
Reddy had previously worked with the Bridgeport Base Ball Club and was secretary of the Connecticut State League in 1888[2]. In 1891, he was the catalyst in starting another state league in Connecticut[3], but after Bridgeport decided not to enter the league, he became manager of the club in Norwich[4], though he was let go from that role in June[5]. He later served at various times as manager or secretary for clubs in Bridgeport.
