Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Jake Pettit played in the Baltimore Orioles system from 2010 to 2014 and though he peaked briefly (30 IP) at Triple-A, he never ascended to the majors. He was taken by the club in the 42nd round of the 2010 amateur draft and was signed by scout James Keller.

He began his career by going 3-5 with a 2.61 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) between the Bluefield Orioles and Aberdeen IronBirds; in 62 innings, he walked just 5 batters. He was one of just 5 Appalachian League pitchers to toss a complete game that year -- the others were Spencer Arroyo, Cale Johnson, Braulio Lara and Yovanny Olivero. Between the Delmarva Shorebirds and Frederick Keys in 2011, he went 12-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 26 games (25 starts), earning a spot on the South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star team. The next year, he was 11-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 24 games (21 starts) for the Bowie Baysox and in 2013, he went 10-8 with a 4.44 ERA between Bowie and the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. That was his first taste of Triple-A; in 23 2/3 innings there, he went 3-2 with a 4.56 ERA. 2014 was his final pro season. Between Bowie and Norfolk, he went 4-9 with a 6.27 ERA in 26 games (20 starts).

Overall, he went 40-29 with a 4.22 ERA in 114 games (102 starts). In 599 1/3 innings, he allowed 610 hits and 160 walks (1.285 WHIP), while striking out 419 batters.
