Biographical Information[edit]
Ivan Johnson played for the Great Britain national baseball team before making his major league debut.
Johnson was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 4th round of the 2019 Amateur Draft, and he hit .255/.327/.415 in 46 games for the Greeneville Reds in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic then shut down the minor leagues in 2020, and he recorded a .263/.366/.457 batting line in 52 games for the Daytona Tortugas in 2021. He was promoted to the Dayton Dragons in the middle of the season, and he hit .265/.368/.439 in 27 games. Johnson then played 50 games with a .261/.325/.428 batting line for the AA Chattanooga Lookouts in 2022, and he crushed 14 homers with 20 steals and a .225/.314/.413 batting line there in 2023. Johnson hit .235/.352/.417 with 12 homers for the Lookouts in 2024, and he also played 47 games with a .289/.359/.537 batting line for the AAA Louisville Bats. He missed most of the 2025 season due to injuries, and he only played 58 games with a .221/.337/.378 batting line.
Johnson then made it onto Great Britain's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, going 1 for 12 with 2 runs in 4 games in the tournament. He started the 2026 season with Louisville where he hit .290 with 9 homers and 28 RBIs in 55 games before he was called up to Cincinnati on June 30th after an injury to OF Dane Myers, who had crashed into a wall the day before. He made his debut on the day of his call-up, striking out as a pinch-hitter for Noelvi Marte against Grant Anderson in the 9th inning of a 7-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
