Biographical Information[edit]

Ike Benners played in the majors in 1884, with a total of 55 games between the Brooklyn Atlantics of the American Association and the Wilmington Quicksteps of the Union Association. An outfielder, he hit .185 in 211 at-bats.

A brief note in Sporting Life of June 17, 1885, mentions a dispute between Benners and "manager De France" (team not mentioned). The manager denied Benners' charges (which were not specified in this issue), saying Benners "was insubordinate, and did not play as good ball as was expected". He was fined $5, according to the manager. In later life, according to a SABR newsletter (March 1994), he was a motorman.
