Biographical Information[edit]
Hideaki Tsusue played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Tsusue hit .310 with two Best Nine awards in his college career, and he signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1980. The Fighters already had star first baseman Junichi Kashiwabara, so he spent his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He went 4-for-22 in 1983, and he hit .224/.327/.396 in 1984. Tsusue took the starting first baseman spot when Kashiwabara struggled in 1985, and he had a .273/.378/.394 batting line with 8 homers. He had his career year in 1986, and he crushed 19 homers with a .285/.401/.503 batting line. Tsusue was 4th in on-base percentage in the Pacific League (between Dick Davis and Leron Lee), 10th in slugging (between Yoshiaki Kanemura and Tony Brewer) and 3rd in walks (63, between Hiromi Matsunaga and Koji Akiyama). However, he slumped to .214/.329/.324 in 1987, and Kazuhiko Okaji took his spot. Tstsue went 13-for-63 in 1988, and he was traded to the Yomiuri Giants for cash. He had a 12-for-41 record in 1989, and he went 0-for-2 in the 1989 Nippon Series; the Giants beat the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 7 games. Tsusue was hitless in 12 at-bats in 1990, and he announced his retirement. He was a minor league coach for the Giants from 1991 to 1993, and he later scouted for them. He became an assistant coach for Tokyo International University in 2020.
Overall, Tsusue hit .254/.369/.415 with 263 hits and 42 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
