Biographical Information[edit]
Hideaki Matsuyama was drafted by the Orix BlueWave in the 5th round of the 1989 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only played 21 games combined with the big club. Matsuyama was 6-for-22 in 1994, and he hit .237/.293/.342 in 46 games in 1995. However, he only got 15 more at-bats in the rest of his career, and he announced his retirement in 1998. He later became the fielding coach for Orix from 1999 to 2001, and he moved to the Hanshin Tigers as their fielding coach from 2002 to 2004. Matsuyama returned to Orix as fielding coach from 2005 to 2011, and he was the fielding coach for the KIA Tigers in 2012. He later coached in the Chiba Lotte Marines organization from 2013 to 2017, and he joined the Softbank Hawks as minor league fielding coach in 2018
