Biographical Information[edit]
Henry Keupper played six minor league seasons, mostly in the Three-I League and Southern Association from 1908 to 1912, and in the fledgling Federal League in 1913. Pitching for the St. Louis Terriers in 1913, Keupper led the FL that season with a .786 W-L percentage and 1.1 BB/9, and remained with St. Louis for its maiden major league season in 1914. Keupper started the 1914 season with a pair of CG wins over Indianapolis, including a shutout on April 23rd, facing three batters over the minimum. But, that would be the high point of Keupper's season, as he finished with an 8-20 record to lead the league in losses. Keupper was released after the season and, being banned from organized baseball as a "jumper", played independent ball in Henry, Illinois for two seasons. Keupper's two brothers, Hugo and Hubert, played in the minor leagues during the same period (1910-16).
