Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Hayden Juenger was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2021 amateur draft from Missouri State University where he was almost exclusively a reliever. He began his pro career that same year with the Vancouver Canadians of the High-A West going 2-0, 2.70 in 11 games. In 2022, he started off in AA with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and ended the year in AAA with the Buffalo Bisons. His combined record was 3-7, 3.76 in 38 games, including 19 starts. He struck out 100 batters in 88 2/3 innings.
In 2023, he spent a full season at Buffalo but struggled a bit, as he was 5-2, 6.33 in 54 games. He returned in 2024 to pitch another 54 times and finishing at 3-4, 4.19. In 2025, he made a couple of rehabilitation stints, with 31 games at Buffalo where he was 4-0, 5.00. It really looked like his career had stalled when he was again back at Buffalo in 2026, but this time he finally got the call to the Show on May 30th, after 17 games during which he was 1-2, 3.15. While he was pitching better, his call-up was due to an injury to Dylan Cease which meant that the Jays had to put together two bullpen games in a span of three days. In the first of these the day before his call-up, Austin Voth had pitched 3 1/3 innings as the bulk man, so he gave up his spot on the roster to Hayden. He made his debut on May 31st against the Baltimore Orioles. It was a bit of a rough outing as he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 1 inning of work. Needing space on their 40-man roster, the Blue Jays had him designated for assignment at the end of June, and on June 27th traded him to The Athletics in return for minor leaguer Owen Carapellotti.
