Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Grant Dorn played professionally from 1999 to 2005, peaking at Single-A.

He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 29th round of the 1996 amateur draft, between pitchers Kyle Lohse and Tom Shearn, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Montreal Expos in the 10th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Ben Hendrickson, and signed a contract.

He spent two seasons in the Expos chain, 1999 and 2000, going 6-9 with respective ERAs of 3.15 and 5.22. In 2001, he joined the Houston Astros system, spending two years there, going 4-5 with respective ERAs of 4.48 and 3.57. From 2003 to 2005, he played in the independent ranks, appearing in the Frontier League, Northern League and Can-Am League. He was 17-18 with a 4.27 ERA in 76 games (44 starts) in indy ball.

Overall, Dorn went 27-32 with a 4.27 ERA in 196 games (62 starts) over seven seasons. In 584 innings, he allowed 621 hits and 188 walks (1.385 WHIP), while striking out 458 batters. His ERA was 4.27 in both the affiliated and independent ranks.

He also played a single game as quarterback for North Carolina State University in 1997.
