European Cup

The European Cup, is an annual international baseball competition between the league champions of the European baseball leagues. The tournament was first held in 1963 and is overseen by the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB).

As with the European Championship, the competition has been dominated in recent times by Hoofdklasse in the Netherlands and Serie A1 in Italy, as the two nations have won all but seven of the cups. Spain won four of the first six cups and San Marino (which plays in the Italian league) placed second in 2001 and won the cup in 2006, 2011 and 2014.

Parma appeared in eleven consecutive finals from 1977 to 1988, winning nine times. Neptunus won five European titles in a row from 2000 to 2004.

Starting in 2008, there were two European Cups played each year, with runner-ups from some of the premier leagues also getting a shot. The format changed again in 2009, with those two events being qualifiers for a final four, which was then changed to a final two in 2013. In 2016, the format changed again, with one team from each of eight countries participating. There was no event held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format changed more drastically in 2024, going to more of a league format over several months; only Czech and German teams participated in that new variant. This new event was called the European Champions Cup (a name that had been alternatively used with European Cup for a number of years) while the old European Cup name was used for Europe's second-tier cup, formerly known as the Confederation Cup (and before that the CEB Cup).
