Biographical Information[edit]
Eric Silva was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2021 Amateur Draft, out of high school. He was a shortstop as well as a pitcher in high school, but the Giants drafted him strictly as a hurler. He signed on July 5th for a $1,497,500 bonus, foregoing a scholarship to UCLA.
His career began with the ACL Giants Orange in 2021, and he appeared in two games. He moved on to full-season ball with the San Jose Giants of the California League in 2022. In 22 starts, his ERA was a hefty 5.88; he walked 39 men, allowed 11 home runs, and threw 15 wild pitches in 85 2/3 innings. But also struck out 99 and his 8.1 H/9IP ratio wasn't all that alarming. He moved up another level for the 2023 season, beginning the year with the advanced-A Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. In his first 15 starts, his 5.66 ERA was reminiscent of his previous season's total in San Jose. Worse yet, his strike out rate fell to below a strikeout an inning and he was walking men at a greater clip. Still, as of July 3rd, he was ranked the Giants' #11 prospect. Things did not improve after that as he finished the year at 2-7, 5.86, with 18 starts in 28 games for Eugene, and another 2 starts on a rehabilitation assignment in the Arizona Complex League.
In 2024, he started the season in AA, pitching out of the bullpen for the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League. In 28 outings, he wnt 4-2, 4.35 with 2 saves. On July 30th, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers in return for major league OF/1B Mark Canha. He finished the year with the Erie SeaWolves, still in the Eastern League, and going 0-2, 5.60 in 13 games. In 59 total innings between the two teams, he gave up just 46 hits and struck out 69 batters, so there was definitely something to work with. He played in the Arizona Fall League after the season, In 2025, injuries limited him to just 11 games and 45 innings spread among four teams and as many levels, with just 2 games at Erie. He went 3-3, 3.80. He started the 2026 season back at Erie.
