Biographical Information[edit]
Dusty Hughes was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round of the 2003 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Mark Willoughby and made his pro debut that summer.
He pitched a total of 80 games in the majors over three seasons, all but one in relief. He reached the big leagues at the end of the 2009 season with the Royals, going 0-2, 5.14 in 8 games as a September call-up. His lone major league start came on September 19th against the Chicago White Sox and resulted in his first career loss as he gave up 3 runs in 4 1/3 innings. In 2010, he appeared in 57 games for Kansas City, going 1-3, 3.83. He struck out 34 batters and walked 24 in 56 1/3 innings.
In January of 2011 he was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins and spent part of the season with them. His results were poor however, with an ERA of 9.95 in 15 games and he was sent down to the minors at the end of May. He pitched a couple more minor league seasons after that, in the minor league system of the Atlanta Braves in 2012 and 2013, but never made it back to the Show.
