Biographical Information[edit]

Drew Jefferson pitched in the San Francisco Giants system in 2002 and 2003, then played in independent ball in 2005 and 2006. He was taken by the Giants in the 42nd round of the 2002 amateur draft.

With the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes his first year, he went 2-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 23 relief appearances, striking out 39 in 28 1/3 innings. In 2003, back with the Volcanoes, he went 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA in 26 relief appearances, striking out 26 in 24 2/3 innings. After not playing professionally in 2004, he resurfaced with the independent Evansville Otters in 2005, going 2-0 with a 4.31 ERA in 19 appearances. Between the River City Rascals and Schaumburg Flyers in 2006, he went 0-2 with a 4.73 ERA in 30 appearances.

All told, Jefferson went 5-7 with a 4.36 ERA in 98 games. In 130 innings, he allowed 138 hits and 51 walks (1.454 WHIP), while striking out 109 batters.

He later became a scout for the Giants, signing Tyler Beede, Wendell Fairley, David Mixon, Ryan Verdugo and Craig Westcott.
