Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Donald Brandt wasn't long for pro ball, but he had one standout season in a career that spanned from 2008 to 2011.

He began his career with the independent Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League in 2008, going 1-3 with a 9.56 ERA in 5 games (4 starts). In 2009, he began with the GBL's Chico Outlaws, going 4-1 with a 3.64 ERA in 12 games (4 starts). That prompted the Milwaukee Brewers to sign him, and he went 2-1 with a 5.96 ERA in 8 games (2 starts) for the rookie-level Helena Brewers. The Brewers cut him loose before the 2010 season and he rejoined the GBL, this time playing for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika.

2010 was a season for the ages. In 18 games (16 starts), he went a perfect 15-0 with a 2.58 ERA; in 101 2/3 innings, he allowed just 5 home runs. He also contributed at the dish, hitting .216/.293/.351 with 1 home run, 2 doubles and 6 RBI in 37 at-bats. He was an All-Star and the league's Pitcher of the Year, leading the league in wins and finishing second in strikeouts (100, behind Lou Pote's 123). Astoundingly, he wasn't the only league starter with a perfect season that year -- Manny Ayala of the Orange County Flyers went 14-0 and Wes Etheridge, also of Maui, went 10-0; Maui was a powerhouse, finishing 55-26 on the year.

Brandt graduated to the St. Paul Saints of the American Association in 2011, but went 7-4 with a 5.34 ERA in 20 starts to wrap up his career.

Overall, he went 29-9 with a 4.43 ERA in 63 games (46 starts). In 296 1/3 innings, he allowed 313 hits and 123 walks (1.471 WHIP), while striking out 259 batters.
