Biographical Information[edit]

Don Carrithers was a teammate of Jim Barr at Lynwood High School and later with the San Francisco Giants.

His major league career almost ended when he was badly injured in a car wreck in April 1977. He was driving a Volkswagen van with Minnesota Twins teammate Mike Pazik as a passenger when, coming off Interstate 494 in Bloomington, MN, a young Ohio woman mistakenly got on the freeway via the exit ramp. Both were seriously injured and Carrithers was out until late July, only pitching 5 more games that season - the last of his big league career. For his part, Pazik suffered two broken legs and never pitched again in the majors, although he did make it back to the minors.
