Biographical Information

Outfielder Dominic Canzone made his major league debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks around the middle of the 2023 season. The D-Backs had drafted him in the 8th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Ohio State University. He only played 15 games for Arizona, hitting .237 with 1 homer and 8 RBIs, before he was traded to the Seattle Mariners on July 31st of that year. In that trade, he joined Ryan Bliss and Josh Rojas in heading to the Pacific Northwest in return for closer Paul Sewald.

Dominic played another 44 games following the trade to Seattle, batting .215 with 5 homers and 13 RBIs to finish with an OPS+ of 82 in 59 games between the two teams. He was used at both corner outfield spots and as the designated hitter. In 2024, he played 67 games for Seattle, once again seeing time at both corner outfield spots, and hitting .196 with 8 homers and 17 RBIs. His OPS of 90 was actually higher than in his rookie year, due to increased power and more walks, but he still spent part of the season in the minors. In 45 games for the AAA Tacoma Rainiers, he hit .287 with 7 homers and 22 RBIs.

In 2025, he played another 45 games for Tacoma, hitting .296 with 13 homers and 36 RBIs, showing that he had nothing left to prove at that level. He shuttled back and forth between Tacoma and Seattle in the first couple of months before moving to Seattle to stay on June 9th. He had his best season for the M's, just as they were locked in a neck-and-neck battle with the Houston Astros for the AL West title. He had a career game on September 16th when he went 5-for-5 in a 12-5 win over the Kansas City Royals, hitting three homers in the process. It was the second multi-homer game of his career, his first having come on June 22nd against the Chicago Cubs, but it was completely eclipsed by the two homers hit by teammate Cal Raleigh, as it gave him 56 for the season, setting a new mark for switch-hitters, tying the team record set by Ken Griffey Jr. and tying a major league mark for most ballparks homered in in one season. Interestingly, Dominic's big day came in his first start at DH that year. He was only the second player in franchise history to have five hits and three homers in one game, after Mickey Brantley in 1987, and his 14 total bases only trailed Mike Cameron, when he had a four-homer game in 2002.
