Biographical Information[edit]

Dixie Leverett pitched five seasons in the major leagues, starting at age 28. His most notable season was his first one, when he went 13-10.

He played for the Indianapolis Indians in 1928, winning 19 games. The team won the Junior World Series that year.

Newspaper references were often to "Gorham Leverett", his given name.

He had attended the University of Arkansas, pitching on the baseball team and playing halfback on the football team. He played minor league ball at one point in Fort Smith, AR, and one winter was a detective sargeant in Gary, IN. (At least, that's what a Fayetteville newspaper article says, but it also claims he was born in Fayetteville, AR, so some of the facts may be in question.)
