Biographical Information[edit]
David Phrathep has been on the Laotian national team. He is the brother of Davy Phrathep. [1]
David was a walk-on at UCF and became the first known Laotian American to play in NCAA Division I. [2] He was 2 for 5 as a freshman in 2016, sat out 2017 to focus on his premed studies and went 0 for 7 as a junior. [3] He then went to osteopathic college. [4] He was inducted into the Laos American Sports Hall of Fame. [5] He played two games for Laos in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, when his brother Davy was a teammate. He replaced Nee Va Va at catcher late in their win over Malaysia, forming a brother battery; he did not bat. Starting on the hill against a much stronger Philippines national team, he went 4 1/3 IP and allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and 7 runs (6 earned) while striking out two (Nigel Paule and Joven Maulit); Mung Chuevakham took over while Phrathep moved to right field. He had two of their three hits that day. [6]
