Biographical Information[edit]
Daneurys De La Cruz has played in the minors and for the Dominican national team.
He was signed by Detroit Tigers scouts Aldo Perez and Miguel Rodriguez in May 2018. [1] He had a rough first pro summer, hitting .165/.314/.258 between the DSL Tigers 1 and DSL Tigers 2. He improved to .283/.368/.425 for the '19 DSL Tigers 2, then the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 minor league season.
Coming stateside, he batted .284/.432/.543 for the 2021 FCL Tigers East. He tied Rayber Romero for the Florida Complex League lead in walks (31), tied Adinso Reyes and Adriel Sotolongo for 10th in homers (7), was second in OBP (.017 behind Tsung-Che Cheng), was also second in slugging (.009 shy of Rodolfo Nolasco) and led in OPS (14 ahead of Nolasco). He was named the FCL's All-Star catcher. [2]
After that impressive season, he slipped to .204/.328/.289 for the 2022 Lakeland Flying Tigers. Back down to the FCL Tigers in 2023, he failed to repeat his '21 performance at that level, batting .235/.316/.471. He was 0 for 4 for the 2023-2024 Estrellas Orientales in his Dominican Winter League debut. In '24, he played for Lakeland (.212/.342/.318 in 41 G) and the FCL Tigers (8 for 15, 4 HR, 3 BB). He was on the Dominican team in the 2024 Premier 12, as their third-string catcher behind Frank Rodriguez and Randy Florentino. He got into one game, replacing Florentino in a loss to the Japanese national team. He struck out against Chihiro Sumida and flew out against Koki Kitayama. [3]
