Biographical Information

Dan Jones played in the minor leagues and for the USA national baseball team.

Jones represented the USA when they won Gold in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup and 1981 World Games. The San Diego Padres picked him in the 24th round of the 1982 Amateur Draft, and he hit .243/.340/.340 in 62 games for the Walla Walla Padres in his first season. He played 74 games with a .272/.355/.384 batting line for the Miami Marlins in 1983, and he had a .309/.384/.413 batting line in 110 games with the Reno Padres in 1984. His 8 triples trailed only James Steels in the Padres system and he tied for third in the California League while he placed 4th in the loop in average, between Keith Thrower and Ray Etchebarren. He then announced his retirement. He also played basketball and football in college, earning a profile in Sports Illustrated.
