Biographical Information[edit]

Dan Davidsmeier played for the USA national baseball team and in the minor leagues, reaching AAA; he spent four seasons as a starter in AAA but never made the majors.

Davidsmeier hit .444 in junior college in 1978. [1] He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 1980 Amateur Draft, but he refused to sign. He represented the USA in the 1980 Amateur World Series. [2] He was named the All-American shortstop in 1981, by the American Baseball Coaches Association, joining Phil Stephenson, Bryon Horn and Mike Sodders on the infield. [3] The Brewers picked him again in the 3rd round of the 1981 Amateur Draft, and he hit .272/.352/.396 in 68 games for the Burlington Bees in his first season.

He crushed 10 homers with a .272/.348/.405 batting line for the El Paso Diablos in 1982, fielding .951 at short and scoring 85 runs. He was 7th in the Brewers chain in runs and 8th in doubles (27). He tied Ed Amelung for 9th in the Texas League in two-baggers. His batting line was .237/.294/.389 with the AAA Vancouver Canadians in 1983, fielding .979 at second with Ron Koenigsfeld manning short. Davidsmeier improved to .277/.321/.370 with 5 homers in 1984, fielding .933 at third. He played 107 games with a .281/.341/.362 batting line in 1985, starting at second ahead of Juan Castillo. He slumped to .246/.299/.311 in 1986 (fielding .970 at second), and he was 2-for-7 with the AAA Denver Zephyrs in 1987. Davidsmeier also recorded a .227/.303/.314 batting line in 65 games between the Diablos and Shreveport Captains that year.

Moving on to Italy for 1988, he hit .383/.445/.617 with 52 runs and 48 RBI in 40 games in the aluminum-bat league, fielding .981 at 2B for Bologna. [4] He tied for 2nd in runs (4 behind Giovanni Costa), led in hits (70, one ahead of Riccardo Matteucci), led with 5 triples and was 5th in RBI. [5] He also played for Italy in an exhibition tournament that summer. [6] He also played in Italy in 1991, batting .331/.438/.489 for Livorno. He led with 16 doubles, two ahead of Elio Gambuti and Leonardo Schianchi. [7] During this period, he also played in a league in Mexico and in one in Colombia. [8]

Davidsmeier then coached in Taiwan, for the Mercuries Tigers (1992-1993), China Times Eagles (1994), Wei Chuan Dragons (1996-1998) and Uni-President Lions (2003-2004). [9]
