Biographical Information[edit]
Reliever Dakota Watts pitched professionally from 2009 to 2015. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 2009 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Bryan Mitchell, and was signed by scout Elliott Strankman. Despite having some solid seasons, he never ascended above Double-A.
In his rookie season, he took part in a no-hitter. On June 24, 2009, while with the GCL Twins, he came in to relieve B.J. Hermsen and was himself relieved by Jose Gonzalez. The GCL Twins beat the GCL Orioles 5-0 that day. In his second campaign, 2010, he went 6-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 49 appearances between three clubs, striking out 89 in 81 1/3 innings. He was a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star in 2011, despite posting a 6.30 ERA on the year as a whole. He also earned a spot in the Arizona Fall League after the season, posting a 5.65 ERA. In 2012, he was 2-0 with a 2.25 mark in 31 games between two clubs, then he had a 1.98 ERA in 29 games for the Tigres de Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League. In 2013, he had a 2.72 ERA in 35 games between two clubs. He had one last hurrah in 2015, playing in independent ball. In 24 appearances, he had 12 saves and a 1.35, inducing the Texas Rangers to sign him in August. He had a 8.44 ERA in the Rangers system, thus ending his career.
In the affiliated minors, Watts went 17-11 with a 4.02 ERA in 197 games (0 starts). In 277 1/3 innings, he allowed 255 hits and 143 walks (1.435 WHIP), while striking out 252 batters. At all levels, including winter league play, he was 25-22 with a 3.80 ERA in 342 games.
