Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Shelton was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Ted Williams and made his pro debut that summer. Shelton was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 2003 Rule V Draft.

In 2006, playing for Detroit, Shelton became the fastest player in American League history to reach 9 home runs, doing so in the team's 13th game. After his hot April, his numbers plummeted, however, and his career never recovered.

Shelton was an assistant coach at Cottonwood High School for several seasons, [1] then head coach from 2021 to 2023 before joining Salt Lake Community College as an assistant coach in 2024. [2]
