Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Segal has been an umpire in the Appalachian League (2007), South Atlantic League (2008), Southern League (2009-2010) and Pacific Coast League (2011-2012). He worked MLB spring training in 2012 and the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

Segal worked his first major league games in 2014 and continued to work a regular schedule of games over the following years while still officially on the International League staff. On August 9, 2019, he got into a violent argument with Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees, when he ejected him from the game after hearing a comment directed at him from the dugout. Gardner, who claimed afterwards that he hadn't said a word, was extremely angry over the apparent injustice and manager Aaron Boone had to use all his strength to prevent him from attacking Segal.
