Chris Gissell pitched 5 games for the Colorado Rockies in 2004. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1996 in the 4th round, he was in their organization through 2002, primarily as a starter. He had a couple of good years at Colorado Springs in the Pacific Coast League when the Rockies signed him, going 8-4 with a 3.55 ERA in 2003 and 14-2 with a 3.67 ERA in 2004.
In 2006 he pitched for the Seibu Lions of the Pacific League in Japan. He went 6-4, 3.96 in 18 games as a starter that year, then fell to 1-9, 5.21 for the same team in 2007. He came back to the United States in 2008, spending the year with the Sacramento RiverCats in the Oakland Athletics organization.
Gissell joined the Uni-President Lions of Taiwan. He debuted on March 29th, fanning 8 and allowing one unearned run in six innings but losing a pitching duel to Yu-Cheng Liao. He came back to make a couple of starts for Sacramento at the end of the year.
