Biographical Information

Chase Dawson has played in the independent leagues and for the Nicaraguan national team.

He won two state titles in baseball in high school and also played soccer and football. He hit .253/.355/.312 as a college freshman and .264/.381/.311 as a sophomore, fielding .990. As a junior, he hit .265/.341/.389 with 45 runs in 53 games; he led the Missouri Valley Conference with five triples. In the Coastal Plain League, he hit a league-leading .395. He batted .324/.390/.506 with 39 runs in 48 contests and tied the MVC lead with five triples.

Dawson split the summer of '19 between the Gary SouthShore RailCats (.237/.375/.395 in 13 G) and Schaumburg Boomers (.185/.262/.233 in 41 G). Most indy leagues did not operate in 2020 due to COVID-19. Dawson returned to the Boomers in '21 and hit .312/.379/.490 with 78 runs and 9 triples in 92 games, going 25-for-26 in steal attempts. He was third in the Frontier League in runs (behind L.P. Pelletier and David Glaude), first in triples and tied Bralin Jackson for 6th in RBI (68). He was named an All-Star outfielder and the Boomers won the title.

In 2022, he produced at a .310/.382/.531 clip, slugging over .500 despite only 5 home runs as he legged out 24 triples. He was plunked 15 times, stole 23 bases (again caught just once) and scored 76 runs in 95 games. He was 9th in the league in runs, easily broke Chris Sidick's league record of 16 triples , and tied for 9th in HBP. He kept it up in 2023 at .332/.397/.457 with 50 steals in 55 tries, 8 triples and 85 runs in 94 games. He led in triples again (two more than Quentin Holmes), trailed only Jairus Richard and Bryan Rosario in steals, was 4th in runs and was 6th in average (between Andrew Penner and Craig Massey). He was named an All-Star, this time at second base.

After a solid but brief winter with the Leones de León of the Nicaraguan Winter League, he split 2024 between the Boomers (.289/.372/.398 in 96 G) and the York Revolution (.389/.488/.750 in 9 G). He was among the Frontier League leaders in runs (tied for 6th), triples (tied Caleb McNeely for second) and steals (tied Tommy Seidl for 4th with 44). He had another huge winter in Nicaragua - .355/.422/.491, 30 R in 42 G. Along with Guatemalan Juan Montes, he was one of two non-Nicaraguan natives on Nicaragua's team that swept the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Batting cleanup and playing center their first game, he grounded out against South Africa's Dylan Unsworth. His first hit was a double off Spain's Yoanner Negrin. He had three RBI in their 6-0 win over host Taiwan to clinch their spot in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He hit .258/.357/.417 for their three games; only fellow Frontier League vet Rusber Estrada had more RBI in the Taiwan pool (7 to 3) while Dawson's two doubles trailed only Yu Chang's four.
