Biographical Information[edit]
Charles Kearns was a long-time resident of Saint John, NB[1], who was a fixture in the local baseball scene as a player in the 1890s and was coaching in the city in 1927. He was listed as being 2 years old in the 1871 Canadian census, though other census records place his birth year anywhere from 1867 to 1871.
Typically called Charlie in his playing days, Kearns was known as a pitcher and second baseman in Saint John. He had two stints of league ball, playing with the Saint John Athletic Association in the 1890 New Brunswick League, where he primarily played second base, and with the Bangor Millionaires in the 1897 Maine State League, where he primarily played in the outfield.
