Chad Comer played college ball at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the 29th round of the 2011 Amateur Draft and he played in their minor league system for two years. Comer reached High-A in 2012 for 36 games.

The Texas Rangers hired Comer in 2015 as a coach for the Hickory Crawdads and Comer helped the team to a league championship. Comer spent the next three seasons with the DSL Rangers 1 in the Dominican Summer League. Sources differ on what his role was in 2016 and 2017. Some indicate he managed the team at least one of those years; others list him as a hitting coach for all three seasons. In 2019, Comer returned stateside as a hitting coach for the AZL Rangers. In mid-August of 2019, Comer left the Rangers organization and returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach. This foray into the college coaching ranks only lasted for the abbreviated 2020 season.

Comer went back to the Rangers in 2021 as a hitting coach for the Hickory Crawdads. The following year he served as a development coach for the Frisco RoughRiders. The Rangers promoted Comer to manager in 2022 and sent him to the Crawdads for the 2023-2024 seasons. When the Rangers relocated their South Atlantic League team from Hickory, NC to Spartanburg, SC, Comer moved with the team and managed the Hub City Spartanburgers in 2025.
