Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Cameron Cauley is the son of P Chris Cauley, who played in the minor leagues from 1987 to 1989. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 3rd round of the 2021 amateur draft out of a high school in Texas. He grew up around Houston, TX and his father served on his high school's coaching staff.
He began his pro career in 2021 with the ACL Rangers, appearing in 24 games. he struggled a bit in his first full season, batting .209 in 77 games for the Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League in 2022, but he improved to .245 in 100 games between Low-A and High-A in 2023. In 2024, he hit .245 in 93 games for the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League. He played both second base and shortstop during those first four seasons.
In 2025, he was promoted to the Frisco Rough Riders of the AA Texas League, where he hit .253 with 15 homers and 51 RBIs in 113 games. he also scored 74 runs and stole 28 bases while also playing some center field for the first time. He moved up another level, to the Round Rock Express of the AAA Pacific Coast League, at the start of the 2026 season, where he hit .262 in his first 74 games, stealing 29 bases while not being caught once. He was called up to the Rangers on June 29th and started that evening's game against the Cleveland Guardians at second base. He joined the small fraternity of players whose first major league hit was a triple when he hit one off Parker Messick in the 7th innings, becoming only the fourth player in franchise history, and the first since Hanser Alberto in 2025 to do so. He then scored on a single by Nicky Lopez. He was at it again in the 9th when he coaxed a walk off Erik Sabrowski and later scored an insurance run on a double by Justin Foscue as Texas won, 6-3.
